For FDG-PET/CT scans, essentially all cancers and indications are covered for Medicare patients. Click here for a pdf version of the table showing coverage of FDG-PET/CT scans for Medicare patients.
For 18F-Sodium Fluoride (NaF) PET/CT bone scans, Medicare patients are covered through the National Oncologic PET Registry (NOPR). Click here for more information regarding coverage of 18F-Sodium Fluoride (NaF) PET/CT bone scans for Medicare patients.
Medicare patients are screened in accordance with the Medicare approved indications for PET/CT, which include a provision for case-by-case approval. Patients with other insurance are handled on a case-by-case basis.
Pre-certification of PET/CT scans is often needed. The New England PET Imaging System staff are actively involved in this process on behalf of patients. Our office staff are experienced in working with payors in the authorization of PET/CT studies and are happy to assist.
Our goal is to provide PET/CT for patients in which the study is clinically indicated. If there are questions about the clinical indications for PET/CT, or whether PET/CT would be useful in certain situations, the Medical Director will be pleased to discuss this with the referring physician.
New England PET Imaging System is a private undertaking and is not affiliated with any of the hospitals at which we provide imaging services |
